Protecting your groin: attempt to avoid injury

soccerplayerkickingInjury in the groin generally occurs in two ways. There is the acute, explosive maneuver which immediately causes the tear at the pubis. But more commonly, and less known, is the frequent low level micro-tears which can build up to a point where chronic pain becomes prevalent. In either case, groin stretching and warming up, especially in cooler weather, is essential. The reason for this is that in either injury pattern, traction is the cause. Therefore, warming up the muscles and tendons, and subsequently stretching them prior to hard fast movements, has a protective effect.
